We also received confirmation this week from NetherRealm Studios that long-time Mortal Kombat veteral Liu Kang will be joining the Mortal Kombat X roster. With just a few weeks left until release, the Mortal Kombat developer is releasing information at a rapid rate, so we're sure to see even more reveals and rumors hit the streets s
The two (former) professionals are Olzhas “Naiman” Batyrbekov and Dan “Alchemixt” Walton. The two lesser known players were only identified by their gamertags, XzaM and Damnery. While Blizzard has banned players for offenses like botting and win trading in the past, this is the first time they have publicly named the players. It seems like they're stepping up their efforts to clean up the professional scene as Blizzcon gets clo
“This was a project full of firsts for me. It’s been incredibly frustrating and educational trying to finally accomplish this cosplay. This was my first time making armor with Worbla, and I only have one burn scar… so far! In fact, this was my first time using automotive primer, Bondo, silicone molds, resin casts, and a whole lot of other stuff. I’m a kinetic learner, so the only way I really get a handle on stuff is by getting my hands on it and going for it. I messed up a lot, but I learned a lot. You really just have to take every little thing in stride. I had been pushing to try and get this cosplay ready for a specific convention, and nearly drove myself mad trying to do it. Instead, I’ve learned now to just sit back and enjoy the experience. It’ll be done when it’s done, and I’ll be proud of the finished produ
Such a new major event with backing from some of the biggest names in eSports would likely draw a lot of attention. There was also a rumor that the companies involved might create exclusive deals with only certain teams or existing competitions. This is causing some of the organizers of existing smaller tournaments to fear that they could lose influence if such a super league was announ
Though they have many thematic similarities, there are a plethora of differences between the two. This creates a wide contrast in the user's experience. And, it's difficult to say whether their different qualities truly constitute strengths or weaknesses. This is particularly important to remember when the fundamental differences between these games were formed with intentional design philosophies in m
That being said, in its own unique way, Legend of Solgard' s mid-core style of game design is considerably more palatable than other mobile games. The gameplay loop is repeatedly made satisfying by its own rich complexity; the kind of casual challenge that could only come from a mobile title. The more I play Legend of Solgard and ponder the strengths and weakness of my characters, the different varieties of enemies, and different combinations I have at my disposal, the more I get sucked into it. Despite appearing to an outsider as a simple match-three puzzle game, Legend of Solgard contains the ripe intricacy of a four-dimensional game of chess. Not only do players have to strategically maneuver their factions to attack and defend against their enemy counterparts, they constantly have to focus on the metagame. As each character has its own distinct special ability, the game forces you to contemplate which characters you should utilize during each turn and (later on) which characters you should bring into each fight in gene
Dota 2 is by far one of the most popular games to both play and watch. The game has a constant and high following on services like Twitch and YouTube , and has seen impressive attendance at past tournaments. Tickets for the upcoming Dota 2 tournament went on sale this week, but weren’t available long. In fact, despite the $99 price tag, the first round of tickets sold out in just six minutes. The second round of ticket sales beat the first round, selling out in an impressive four minu
Editor's Note: To get our hands-on experience of Legend of Solgard , DualShockers’ staff was flown out to Sweden and put up at a hotel by King, the game’s publisher. You'll read more about that trip in an upcoming arti
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft continues to have great success in the eSports scene, with tournaments for top players getting held just about every weekend and some streamers on Twitch regularly bringing in tens of thousands of viewers. Blizzard is currently handing out qualifying points for this year's Hearthstone World Championship at special events and through the monthly seasonal results. While last year did have a Hearthstone World Championship, 2015 is the first time Blizzard has created a year-long path to Blizzcon. It's created opportunity for a lot new players to try and get in on the action, but it now seems that at least a few gamers got a little too overzeal
While Legend of Solgard is filled to the brim with in-game goodies, there's something to be said about the organic way in which the game handles all of its in-game chests, currencies, and gems. Even though Legend of Solgard contains its fair-share of microtransactions, none of them feel particularly predatory, or for that matter, mandatory. During the time I spent with the MOBA game DLC (which was notably pre-launch and possibly tested before the final pricing model has been established), I never once felt compelled to insert my credit card number nor did I ever feel like the game was designed explicitly to elicit money from its gameplay loop. The initial dread of looming microtransactions that loomed over me while I was enjoying Pokemon Quest was noticeably absent during my tenure with Legend of Solgard , and that comfort made the game all the more enjoya
